Program Possibility: Pancakes and Pigs

Submitted by Andrea Gertz, Winona State University

In honor of National Pancake Week I was just going to make pancakes for my residents. Instead, I read them the book "If You Give a Pig a Pancake." Then, we made origami pigs. I also made chocolate chip pancakes. This program can be done for less than $20.

I bought generic pancake mix, syrup, chocolate chips, butter, plates, and forks. I recommend getting a mix in which all you have to add is water. Chocolate chips are optional, but recommended.

The pigs are very simple.

You'll need: Pink paper, scissors, black marker. Optional: googley eyes & glue

Directions:

Fold a square piece of paper in half corner to corner (forming a triangle)

Fold the two points of the triangle so they meet at the third (forming a diamond)

Cut a half circle from one corner where the flaps meet to the other

Fold the flaps back (forming ears)

Fold the curve up (forming the snout)

Add eyes - googley ones are recommended - dots for the nostrils

Poke a hole at the top and put string through.

The only catch to it all was the pancakes came last & they had to make a pig first. Overall, everyone loved the pancakes and had fun making the pigs.
