Fun on the Job: Theme Duty Nights
By Linda Harvey,
Resident Assistant, Central Michigan University
Our staff
in Wheeler Hall does something that is pretty fun and innovative to make
this job more interesting.
On Thursdays,
Fridays, and Saturdays we have two RA's on duty together. On those nights
the RA's come up with themes for the duty night. Then, depending on the
theme, the RA's will dress up and get into "character" with
the theme.
Some past
themes have included:
80's
night - complete with crimped hair, stone washed mini skirts, and
purple eye shadow
Birthday
night - The RA's on duty wore party crowns, carried balloons, and
gave out party favors
Guess
who Night - The RA's wore paper bags to hide faces and switched
name tags so no one knew who they were
Totally
Pink Night - everything they wore was pink.... pink hair...pink
hats...
Pajama
night - Very easy to do...most RA's wear pajamas for duty anyway!
:)
Those are
just a few examples of what our staff does! It is very fun and the residents
love it. They look forward to theme nights every weekend. We even won
a campus wide OTM (Of The Month) for our staff as "Community of the
Month" for such awesome bonding!
I hope you
enjoy!
Thanks and
HUGS from CMU!
