Crown
of Many "Hats"
By Kyle Robin,
Community Director
University of Maryland
We perform
many roles in our daily work as student affairs professionals. Sometimes
our work allows us to focus on the roles, which bring us the most joy.
At other times, we must adjust our priorities and invest more time and
energy in those roles, which bring us less joy. If we look beyond the
surface we can recognize the true value that each role played in student
development.
Although
each semester, academic year, job-title, and campus demands different
things at different times, remember that a career is a long-term endeavor.
All of our experiences, whether they are our favorite parts of the job
or not, feed into the betterment of us as professionals; skills are enhanced,
challenges are overcome, and, most importantly, student needs are met.
