RA Stories…”Like A Rabbit from a Hole…”

As an RA, I keep my eye out for university policy and the violations that are a normal part of the job. Being a first year RA I had not had to deal with alcohol violations, so when I had my first major alcohol incident, it was a little scary.

My duty partner and I were on rounds on a Saturday night, about 1:30 AM, and the whole building was quiet. When we reached the second floor, we heard some people talking loudly from the opposite end of the hall.

We knocked on the door and sure enough, there were a handful of people lounging around the room, and all with drinks in their hands. We couldn't tall what was in the cups, but we told them to be quiet and they shut the door. Not more than a minute passed before the residents were talking loudly, asking each other if they thought the RA's has smelled the whiskey. With that, my duty partner left to get the hall director, and I decided to hang out outside their door.

A couple of minutes later, one of the people in the rooms poked their head out of the door to see if they could escape. As soon as they saw me, they slammed the door and I could hear them whispering. All of the residents were written up, but I will always remember my first alcohol write-up and the fearful resident poking her head out of the door like a rabbit from a hole.
